About Tamworth

Tamworth sits in the southeast corner of Staffordshire, just 18 miles northeast of Birmingham. This historic market town, once the ancient capital of Mercia, dates back to Saxon times. With its busy market days, beautiful Castle Pleasure Grounds, Tamworth boasts an array of activities, shops, and attractions both in and around the town, there really is something for everyone.

The Parish Church of St Editha is believed to be one of the oldest and largest churches in the Midlands boasting some unique features.

Tamworth Assembly Rooms, built in 1887, is now a vibrant 350 seat theatre, offering a wide variety of performances. There are also many outdoor events taking place throughout the year.

Tamworth is also famously known as the home of Sir Robert Peel, the Reliant Robin motor car, the Sandyback pig and recently the home of Colin Grazier, a war hero whose actions helped shorten World War 2.

With excellent road, rail and bus networks, including a daily National Express service to London, getting around is extremely easy.

Tamworth's award winning Tourist Information Centre is based at the philip Dix Centre on Corporation Street. It can provide information on where to stay, where to eat and what to do in the area.

The Tourist Information Centre is proud to support local groups and businesses by supplying their produce. These range from sweets, preserves and beverages to art and craft gifts. Visitors can also purchase a wide variety of souvenirs and goods, including Tamworth Football Club merchandise. Theatre tickets and discounted tickets for several local attractions are also avaliable here. So be sure to visit Tamworth Tourist Information Centre where a warm and friendly service will be guaranteed.

Bespoke Street Maps have recently supplied accurate Ordnance Survey based, council approved, detailed, area street maps to and on behalf of Tamworth Borough Council.
